On this Independence Day of 2022, we would like to give all our readers a link to a patriotic song we first heard when we were living in Rota, Spain, many years ago. We listened to it on the one English language radio station we had — operated by the American Armed Forces Radio & TV Service. It was on July 4, 1984 when we first heard this song, and you can imagine what it felt like to hear such a song, serving our country thousands of miles away from our homes and loved ones. It brought tears to our eyes then, and still does.
In those days, even before breakfast, we would rally the children to parade around the house with us, holding American flags as we played John Philip Sousa music at ear-splitting volumes for the benefits of neighbors and passersby. That summer, our Spanish neighbors must have been amused to hear such music wafting through the Andalusian community where we resided. Later in the day, a Texas-style barbecue included not just Americans, but neighborhood friends as well.
On this day, so many decades later, we still celebrate an America that we can have again, if we pray and work hard enough. Let us not cease in thanking God that Roe v Wade, Doe v Bolton, and PP v Casey were all reversed. It is the beginning of a return to the right path for our beloved Country. Let’s also thank God’s instrument, President Donald Trump, who nominated the right people at the opportune time for the Supreme Court. We will have more to say about the Constitutional aspects of the reversal of Roe, and the implications for even more future reversals of bad decisions like Obergefell, in an upcoming post.
For now, for this day, we ask Almighty God most fervently to continue to bless America, to “mend her every flaw,” and to lead us back to the right path from which we departed so many years ago.
A Happy Independence Day to all!
